MEET THE TEAM
Jon
Licensed Building Practitioner
Jon was born and raised in the Wairarapa. He started his apprenticeship with Wallis Building and finished his training while working for Holmes Construction. Jon started Checkley Building in 2013 after becoming a qualified builder. He has now been working as an insurance reinstatement builder for over 5 years and has a good working relationship with the local insurance companies. Jon is a licensed builder and also takes on new builds, alterations/additions and smaller jobs. He has a wealth of experience in project management and also offers initial concept design so our clients can get an idea of what their project might look like and make changes before engaging a designer.
Leon
Experienced Builder
Leon started working in the building industry in 2007. He then spent 7 years in Australia where he gained experience in wet area/retaining wall/below sea level water proofing, and also developed skills in customer service.
After returning to NZ, Leon joined our team as an experienced labourer in 2018 and worked with us until starting up F45 with wife Alesha. Leon has always had a passion for building and loves the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing a job and making our clients ideas come to life. Leon re-joined our team in 2021 and is finishing up his building qualification.
Cayden
2nd Year Apprentice
Cayden started work experience with another local builder while still in his last year of college.
Cayden joined our team to help out with overflow work and ended up staying on in a full time labourer role.
He enjoyed what he was doing and wanted to learn more, so he started his apprenticeship with BCITO and is now into his second year of training.
Cayden has now assisted with 3 new builds and several smaller jobs, and is competent in various stages of the building process.

The process for renovations is quite different from a new build, but our team is experienced in managing additions and alterations, and can assist with project management as much or as little as you need. Contact us to request a quote.

Lees Pakaraka House
Some features we loved in this build were the exposed trusses, fully opening corner joinery from the dining out to the deck, stunning entry and relaxed feel. We created the initial concept design from the client's brief and worked with them to visualise changes throughout the build process using our 3D CAD software.

Konini Street House
Our team designed and built this home for Jon and wife Shanelle. The steep site meant this was a challenging build, requiring mulitple engineered retaining walls and complicated drainage, but it was all worth it for this cosy family home with stunning views.
